Remedies for Dry Hair

Nobody likes dry hair. When your hair is dry, it sticks out straight and dry like broom bristles. It becomes unmanageable and it lacks shine and moisture. When this happens to you, trying on effective dry hair remedies is at the top of your priorities.

Experts agree that dry hair is a very tough problem. In general, dry hair is caused by overprocessing – with procedures such as bleaching, coloring, straightening and perming. It gets worse when we use heated devices such as blow-dryers and curling and straightening irons.

Ideally, the cells inside each strand of your hair line up in straight rows, but if tiny sections of the outer cell layer of your hair have been stripped off by harsh chemicals or extreme heat, such processes expose the inner layers of your hair shaft and as a result, your hair loses moisture. In addition, dry and damaged hair doesn’t have the ability to reflect light compared to healthy and smooth hair. Dry hair equates to dull and lifeless hair.

Here are some remedies you can do at home for your hair:

1. Shampoo properly before conditioning. Proper shampooing is the first step to having a healthy scalp and manageable hair. Choose a very mild shampoo to cleanse you hair and scalp, then follow with a rich and nourishing conditioner.

2. Use a deep conditioner regularly. To fill the broken components in the hair’s outer layer and restore shine, use a deep conditioner. Use it once a week. They don’t nourish you hair, but they do a great job in filling in defects and coat your hair strands, which result in a smooth, flat surface that reflects light and gives shine to your hair. For maximum effectiveness, apply deep conditioner to damp hair before you shampoo. Gently work it into your hair with your fingertips, leave on for 30 minutes, then follow with your normal shampoo and conditioner routine.

3. Stop using harsh chemicals. Avoid using harsh dyes and perming agents to your hair. It will thank you afterwards.

To treat dry hair, stop using heating tools. But if this isn’t possible, use a thermal styling conditioner to prevent and treat dry hair. Protect it from the sun by using a sunscreen hair mist. The chlorine from beaches and pools can also make your hair dry and damaged, so it is also very important to use a hair cap or a conditioner before taking a dip.

Excessively dry hair can also cause hair loss. If this happens, consult your doctor and make the switch to a shampoo and conditioner that nourishes and facilitates hair growth.
